HISTORY

brigantine CALA MILLOR

* 1946 *

owners:

     activities:
-   -
1946-1965:
NAVIERA MALLORQUINA,
from Palma de Mallorca, Balearic Islands.
The ship is called « CALA MILLÓ » (CALA MILLOR)

Built by ASTILLEROS NAVIERA MALLORQUINA, CALA MILLÓ is the last «  pailebot  » - typical Spanish East coast schooner - to be built in this well known shipyard with their famous carpenters of Palma de Mallorca, Balearic Islands . For the NAVIERA MALLORQUINA, the sailing freighter transports general cargo mostly between Mallorca, the East Coast of Spain and Marseille, South of France.
1965-1973:
HIJOS DE ABEL MATUTES TORRES SA, Ibiza, Spain
the ship is renamed « ANTONIO MATUTES »

With the company MATUTES, she mainly transports building material for the development of the island Ibiza , together with 10 other « pailebots ». In the early seventies, all of them are laid up.
1973-1977:
the ship owner Jean Claude Von Rijnenant calls the schooner « OUTLAW »

The ship gets restored in Ibiza, Valencia, Spain and Marseille. Now, she is rigged in brigantine and the cargo hall gives accommodation to 18 persons in double cabins. The cargo hatch is replaced by a deckhouse with saloon and galley. She is registered in Lloyds classification.
1977-1989:
the association JUGENDSCHIFF CORSAR
from Cuxhaven, Germany

With Malta flag OUTLAW starts a period of long journeys, crossing the Atlantic every year and sailing in the North Sea as well as the Mediterranean - on board German trainees with social problems.
1989-1996:
the association DROGENHILFE BREMEN GmbH
from Bremen, Germany
calls her « JOLA »

The association DROGENHILFE BREMEN (=Help for drug-addicts in Bremen) takes the ship over in bad state. The rusty deckhouse is taken away, the interior cleaned out, a big galley for community is installed and the hull is restored. But financial help is too short to change the rigging. Like that, JOLA stays moored 7 years on the river Weser as a floating home for drug-addicts.
since 1996 :
The ship is managed by CIRCUM NAVEGACIONES SRL
the new owner gives back her original name CALA MILLÓ.

With the support of CIRCUM NAVEGACIONES, the new owner buys the ship how she is, where she is: without flag, without survey out of the water. At the dry-dock, the hull comes out in a surprising good state. The restoration of 1989, the cold current of the river and the tide of the North Sea have well preserved the wood. The masts are reinforced in Bremerhaven, Germany, and the rigging is fixed in Denmark to get it ready to sail to the Mediterranean, for a further refit.
1999 :
The deck is restaured and recaulked. The engine is changed for a BAUDOUIN P15 of 450HP.
2000 :
The hull is restaured and waterline planks are changed.
since 2004 :
CALA MILLOR is owned by CIRCUM NAVEGACIONES HISPANIA S.L., based in Ibiza.

The equipment is finally recovered. With Spanish immatriculation, see specifications, she participates at its first event : the FESTIVAL OF THE SEA of the FORUM of Barcelona, June 2004.
